Early voting for election starts Tuesday

By Len Robbins, Publisher

Early voting for the November 4 election will start on Tuesday, October 14 and end on Friday, October 31.

Clinch County voters will choose between five candidates for the Probate/Magistrate Court Judge position, and there will be two SPLOST renewals and two state Public Service Commission races on the ballot.  There will be no local municipal elections on the ballot.

Early voting will be held at the elections office inside the Clinch County Courthouse in Homerville.

The Probate/Magistrate special election was called due to the resignation of Probate/Magistrate Court Judge Kimberly Smith in March. Former Lanier County Probate Court Judge Judy Mullis has been serving as the interim judge since then. Candidates for that post include Kassi Knight, Tony Spradley, April Thomas, Missy Westmoreland and Elexis Williams. It is a non-partisan election.

Two other local matters – the renewals of the county SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) and the E-SPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) – will also be on that ballot for all county voters.

The following choices will be on the ballot for the statewide PSC Special Election:

Public Service Commissioner – District 2:

Incumbent Commissioner Tim Echols, Republican, and Alicia M. Johnson, Democrat

Public Service Commissioner – District 3:

Incumbent Commissioner Fitz Johnson, Republican, and Peter Hammond, Democrat

Early voting will be held at the county elections office in the Clinch County Courthouse from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on those days.

Citizens can find their precincts for the November 4 election and all other voting information at the Georgia My Voter Page website.
