What should festival be named?
What should the revived community festival for Clinch County be named?

Score better than state in all categories

CCMS students
excel at CRCT

Clinch County Middle School students scored better than the state average on every aspect of this spring's CRCT.
The state Department of Education recently released CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests) results from spring of 2014, and CCMS fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-graders bested or equalled state averages in every subject area (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies). Overall, in the 30 subject areas over grades 3-8, Clinch students equalled or topped state averages in 19 of 30 categories. Last year, Clinch students had equal or better scores in 14 of 30 subject areas.
Particularly impressive were the CCMS 6th-grade scores. They had 100 percent of their students meet or exceed (pass) the Reading portion of the test, and 93 percent meet or exceed Science (state average-75).
Superintendent Dr. Donna Ryan also pointed out that Clinch students improved in areas where they didn't score better than state averages on the CRCT.
"Even in areas where the Clinch County students scored below state averages, our gap between system/state averages shrunk significantly," said Donna Ryan. "For example, look for the performance in all subject areas in fourth grade. We are still below the state (average) in three of the five areas, but when you consider the size of the gap between our students and the state in 2013 with the reduction in gap for 2014 – their performance is very impressive. We are excited that we beat the state average in Social Studies,  but math, science and social studies gap reductions (of 11, 14 and 23 percentage points, respectively) in the actual gap are amazing."
In 2013, just 68 percent of Clinch fourth-graders met or exceeded in Science (state average-83). This year, 80 met or exceeded; just one point (81) short of the state average. In social studies, 62 percent met or exceeded in 2013 (81-state average), and 85 met or exceeded in 2014 (81-state average).
Details of Clinch, and state, CRCT scores can be found on the state department of education website -
