Accepts job in Fitzgerald

Band director
leaving for job
in Fitzgerald

Clinch County High's band director is moving on up.
Jonathan Kelly, who directed the school system's band program for four years, has accepted a position at Fitzgerald High as its high school band director.
"It's a great professional opportunity for me," said Kelly of going to Fitzgerald High, a Class AA school with nearly 900 students. "I'll only being doing high school band there. It was just too good an opportunity for me to pass up."
When Kelly arrived in 2009, there were only 25 members of the CCHS marching band roster. He said he expects 98 to be on the marching band roster this coming school year.
"We recruited in the middle school, and made it fun for the kids," Kelly said of the increase in participation. "The kids and the Band Boosters did all the work. I give them the credit. I've loved my time here, and made some great friends."
The school system has interviewed candidates to replace Kelly, and could vote on a recommendation at the next school board meeting.
